In this area was operated from 11 February 1935 until 6 October 2018 the famous Tsukiji Market, the largest wholesale fish and seafood market in the world. It was relocated to Toyosu in 2018.
The site is planned for the construction of a stadium, commercial complexes, and an international conference and exhibition center. The project is scheduled to open in the first half of the 2030s at the earliest.
