Ichikawa Danjuro IX in Asakusa

Leading kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjuro IX (1838 -1903), as Kamakura Gongoro in the famous kabuki play “Shibaraku”.
The bronze statue is located in the small park (next to the parking) behind Sensoji Temple at Asakusa, Tokyo. It was built in 1919. During WWII, it was removed for metal recovery and restored in 1986.
