Kita-Kamakura Station (北鎌倉駅) is a railway station on the Yokosuka Line in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East). It also serves the Shonan-Shinjuku Line and is located 51.7 km from Tokyo Station.
Originally opened as a temporary stop on May 20, 1927, by the Japanese Government Railways (JGR), Kita-Kamakura Station became a full-fledged station on October 1, 1930, when the current station building was completed. This upgrade marked its transition into a more significant transport hub for the region. With the privatization of Japan’s national railway system on April 1, 1987, the station came under the management of JR East.
Kita-Kamakura Station is located in close proximity to several renowned Buddhist temples, making it an important gateway for visitors exploring the spiritual and historical heart of Kamakura. Among these temples are Engaku-ji, Kencho-ji, and Tokei-ji, each offering a unique glimpse into Japan’s religious heritage.
