A manhole cover at Kitakyushu Airport featuring Maetel from the popular manga and anime series Galaxy Express 999 by Leiji Matsumoto (1938–2023), who was born in Fukuoka. In total, there are 10 manhole covers designed by Matsumoto across the city. These special covers were created to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Kitakyushu’s sewerage system.
