Sawai Station

Sawai Station (沢井駅, Sawai-eki) is a passenger railway station located in the area that was once called “Sawai Village” which is a part of Ome City in the western portion of the Tokyo Metropolis.

The station number is JC 68 and it is operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East) on the Ome Line. It is 25.9 kilometers from the starting point of the line at Tachikawa Station.

Sawai Station is an unmanned station with a single platform and one track (until November 29, 2019, there was one island platform with two tracks). The overpass has a roof modeled after a tower, and a pagoda stands in the center.

The station opened on September 1, 1929.

The station symbol mark has a sake barrel because the area is famous for its sake. Sawai is home of Ozawa Sake Brewery, one of the oldest sake breweries in Tokyo. It is located 5 minutes on foot from the station.

We visited the area in early December when the stunning autumn colours were at their peak.
