Kawagoe Festival Museum
Kawagoe Matsuri is a traditional Japanese festival held annually on the third weekend of October in Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture. It is Kawagoe’s biggest event and the festival has more than a 360-year history. It attracts around one million tourists during the two days.
The festival is designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property and in 2006 it was added in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list as one of the “Yama, Hoko, Yatai, Float Festivals in Japan”.
You can experience the exciting atmosphere of the festival any time throughout the year at the Kawagoe Festival Museum. On Sundays and national holidays there is a twice-daily performance where you can enjoy the music of the Kawagoe Festival.
