Maebashi, Gunma: Poetry on manhole cover

A manhole cover in Maebashi with the portrait of Sakutaro Hagiwara (萩原 朔太郎, 1886-1942) and a verse of his poem “Hirose River”. Hagiwara, a poet who was born in Maebashi, the capital city of Gunma Prefecture, is considered the “father of modern poetry in Japan”.
