The Sakurai Futamigaura Coast, located on the Itoshima Peninsula northeast of Fukushima City, is a renowned destination, featured among “Japan’s Top 100 Beaches” and “Japan’s Top 100 Sunset Views.” A white Torii gate stands at the coast, and the Meoto Iwa (“Married Rocks”), about 150 meters offshore, form a sacred and breathtaking site, blending natural beauty with cultural significance. The two rocks, connected by a large shimenawa sacred rope, symbolize marriage and the sacred bond between husband and wife.
The Sakurai Futamigaura Meoto Iwa is part of the Sakurai Shrine, located just a 5-minute drive or about 40 minutes on foot away.
You can reach the site by taking the Showa Bus West Coast Liner from Hakata/Tenjin Station (approx. 1 hour).
