Ohori Park (大濠公園, Ohori-koen) is located in central Fukuoka. Covering a total area of approximately 400,000 square meters, the park features a large pond spanning about 220,000 square meters, making it one of Japan’s most notable parks with water scenery. A 2-kilometer path encircles the pond, offering a pleasant environment for jogging and walking.
When Fukuoka Castle was built by daimyo Kuroda Nagamasa (黒田 長政, 1568-1623) during the Keicho Period (1596-1615), this area, which was the inlet of Hakata Bay, served as the outer moat. In 1927, the site was transformed through landscaping for the Eastern Industrial Exhibition, and two years later, in 1929, it was opened to the public as Ohori Park, operated by the prefecture.
The Ohori Park (Fukuoka Art Museum) subway station is a 10-minute ride from Hakata Station (Airport Line).
