Kitami Fudodo in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo

Kitami Fudodo was closed on November 2025 due to safety concerns regarding the cliff behind the mail hall.

While strolling through the tranquil and cherished neighborhoods of Seijo and Kitami in Setagaya ward, Tokyo, along the railway tracks between Seijogakuen-mae and Kitami stations, we came across a small hidden gem, Kitami Fudodo (喜多見不動堂). As we read on the sign, it is a branch temple of Keigenji which is located approximately 1.5 kilometers to the south.

The temple was built in its current location in 1876 by local residents for the safety of the village. It became an external hall of Keigenji in 1941.
In addition to the Fudodo, the site features the Iwaya Fudo cave, dedicated to the Buddhist guardian deity Fudo Myoo, and the Tamahime Inari Shrine. Immediately upon entering the temple grounds from the road, you’ll come upon a pond and a waterfall with natural spring water, where believers used to perform water purification rituals.

Kitami Fudodo is a 9-minute walk from Seijogakuen-mae and Kitami stations on Odakyu Odawara Line.
