“Iso-watari”, stepping stone paths that lead across shallow parts of the pond of Kiyosumi Garden in Fukagawa, Tokyo’s Koto ward. These huge stones are some of 55 in total brought in the late 1870s from all over Japan to the garden by Yataro Iwasaki, founder of Mitsubishi. Iwasaki who had acquired the land, opened the garden in 1880 under the name Fukagawa Shimbokuen.

When you walk on these paths, you can see the fish and turtles in the pond and enjoy the reflections of the trees on the surface of the waters.
